Terms Of Purchase
These Terms of Purchase govern your access to and use of the Service provided by Elsevier Inc. ("Elsevier"). Elsevier, hereinafter will be referred to as "we," "our" or "us." The "Service" means the Dorland’s website located at dorlandsonline.com and all linked pages provided by Elsevier (the "Sites"). By using the Service, you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms of Purchase and any additional terms or product requirements provided on portions of the Service that you use. Do not use the Service if you are unwilling or unable to be bound by these terms.
The Service is available via individual subscription service. Purchasers of Dorland’s print products will not be granted free access to the Service. All ancillary electronic product uses granted in conjunction with purchases of Dorland’s print products are limited to those services provided on the dorlands.com website.
Elsevier maintains the right to provide trial periods of the Service to users at the sole discretion of Elsevier.
Subscriber Account
In order to obtain access to the Service, you may be required to establish an account ("Account"). You agree to provide accurate and complete information when you register with, and as you use, the Service ("Registration Information"), and you agree to update your Registration Information to keep it accurate and complete.
Do not reveal your Account login or password to anyone else. You must take reasonable steps to maintain the confidentiality and security of your Account, and you must not share your Account details with anyone else. You agree to immediately notify Elsevier of any security breach of your Account. Elsevier will not be responsible for any claims or losses arising out of the unauthorized use of your Account.
We reserve the right to refuse service to any person or to cancel any registration. Also, we reserve the right to change, without prior notice, Service options and features, including any updating or changes to content.
Subscription Terms
Elsevier grants you the non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use the Service for the period of use selected, subject to these Terms of Purchase and the Elsevier Website Terms & Conditions and the standard Elsevier Registered User Agreement.
You may access, search, browse and view the Service and extract, print, and store search results, from the Service for your exclusive use.
In order to gain access to the Fee-Based Service, you will need to select one of the available fee options.[If your subscription or other fees are paid by an organization on your behalf ("Sponsoring Organization"), you will have the option to continue your access to the Fee-Based Service under the prevailing fee terms of such sponsorship.]
We will use your Registration Information, along with your selected term of subscription and your credit card information, in order to enable us to process your purchase. We use your credit card and billing address details to bill you for the purchase and, where necessary to process the transaction, will pass this information on to relevant third parties. Your credit card information will be securely stored by our third-party vendor (Braintree), which will automatically handle the renewal of your subscription at each billing cycle until such a time as you terminate your subscription.
Your subscription will be automatically renewed for the term you originally selected unless you terminate your subscription prior to renewal. You will receive an email alert about your pending renewal, which will provide an option to terminate your subscription. When you receive the alert you will also be provided the option to change your term of service to one of the other options provided.
You agree to pay all subscription fees and other charges [(which are not paid by a Sponsoring Organization on your behalf)] that may be incurred in connection with your Account(including any applicable taxes) at the rates in effect when the charges were incurred.
All fees and charges [(which are not paid by a Sponsoring Organization on your behalf)] incurred in connection with your Account will be billed to the credit card you designate.
You also are responsible for any charges incurred to access the Service, such as telephone and other equipment charges, and fees charged by an Internet access provider or other third-party service.
You may terminate your subscription at any time. If you elect to terminate your subscription, you will not be entitled to any refund of any subscription fees that you have already paid.
All Dorland’s Online sales are final and non-refundable. If you would like to cancel your subscription before the next renewal period, you must do so prior to the date of your auto-renewal. You can cancel your subscription at any time during your current subscription period in the “My Account” section.
Elsevier may change the fees charged at any time. When fees are changed, Elsevier will notify you by e-mail or by posting a notice on the Site. The fee options available to you will be presented within the Fee-Based Service.
The term of this Agreement shall commence once the entitlement e-mail has been sent by Elsevier’s Electronic Customer Service department and shall continue for the duration as reflected in the selected access options on the Service, in accordance with the usage provisions of this Agreement.
